This program will provide an overview of significant legislation in Oregon’s 2013 Legislative Session, including the following: Veterans Day off for veterans; payment by direct deposit at employer discretion; employee social media protections; use of family leave for bereavement purposes; and statewide mandatory paid sick leave. The session will also offer practical suggestions for how employers and human resource professionals can address new legislation in their workplaces. Additionally, the programing will cover other significant legal updates that have occurred in 2013, including the NLRB’s guidance related to social media, at-will statements, and confidentiality of investigations; and the EEOC guidance on the use of criminal convictions. Finally, the presentation will address wage and hours concerns that are particular to recent developments in technology.
