    Presentation Summary:

    Conflict is an inevitable part of any work environment. In this interactive session, participants will be introduced to resolution strategies, interest based communication, active listening and message framing, and a four-step model to help navigate conflicts. Research based concepts will be presented along with  interactive elements for participants to learn about, experience, and apply new skills.

    Presenter: Sue Theiss

    Sue Theiss, M.A., is the University Ombuds for Oregon State University, where she provides conflict management services and education to all members of the University community. She began her Ombuds career as a volunteer and program co-chair at the University of Arizona, while serving as Department Administrator for the Arizona Health Science Center’s Department of Family and Community Medicine. In 2002 she became the University of Arkansas’ first Ombuds, establishing a program focused on student related issues. At Arkansas, she also taught a course on conflict and anger management, provided victim offender mediation through a restorative justice program, and offered a professional mediation training. Sue holds degrees in Business Administration and Communication. She has expertise in interpersonal conflict management, workplace bulling, and conflict climate, and provides training on these topics at OSU and to her Ombuds peers through the International Ombuds Association.
