Mental Health and the Workplace
Overview:
Mental health illnesses are a costly problem to the individual, organization, and society. There are barriers in the workplace preventing people from receiving the right support system to address this problem, which results in many people struggling on a daily basis to lead a happy and fulfilling life. Mental Health and the Workplace looks to solutions in breaking these barriers through insight on different aspects of HR’s role in addressing mental health to assist HR practitioners prepare for proper support for their employees.
Learning objectives:
1. Determine the magnitude of mental health illnesses’ prevalence in the workplace and the impact to the individual, organization, and society.
2. Describe the stigmatization and criminalization of mental health in the workplace and ways to address these trends.
3. Identify leading HR practices and examples of companies taking the initiative in addressing mental health in the workplace.
Presenter:
Bennett Ho is currently an MBA candidate of 2021 at the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University, with an emphasis in human resources and finance. Bennett firmly believes employees are the backbone of an organization but there is still much to be desired from organizations in regards to the support and wellbeing of these employees. Due to this, Bennett wants to pursue a career in human resources to improve the support and wellbeing of employees within an organization.
